Hi! I'm Jim and this is Jim's Fix it Shop or JandR Woodworking. I started this channel to help you do things easier, faster, and safer. To provide tips and reviews and step-by-step help to fit your needs and projects. The way I do things are solely the way I've been doing it for 40 years and the way I'm used to. It is not necessarily the way you should do it, you have to do things the way it feels comfortable and right for you. When I first started doing woodworking we didn't know what a guard on a table saw was, sometimes you just have to listen to that little voice in the back of your head that's telling you, " This just isn't right." So sit back enjoy the videos and if you need any help, instructions, or some confidence, and if I can help you in anyway, email me and I'll be more than happy to give you a hand. And as always work safe and have fun.

You need to give up mate because anything you talk about is a mess you never show what you're supposed to be showing regarding the fixes
I always appreciate the videos that you make. I had forgotten about the o ring that goes on the bolt that holds the cover on the differential. Reviewed the process and will have my dad's Snapper 307XS rebuilt this coming week some time. I have been mowing grass on this mower since dad bought it in 1968. I was 10 years old then, am 66 years old now. Been through many engine replacements over the years. Getting the machine ready for my daughter to inherit when I am pushing grass up instead of mowing it! Really appreciate all the time and care you put in your videos. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Jim. My butterfly is fine. I think when I put the carb back together I put it back together wrong and the engine ran wide open. Rebuilt the carb the correct way and now my governor doesn’t throttle down. I’m afraid my governor is toast. 😢
If you take the steering column and housing off, you can access the top screws better. It might seem more of a chore, but it did make the overall job much faster.
Why not cut old bag off
I’ve got one of those big bulky gas tanks off of a newer I think a2019 and the flap to cover the deck opening with the chute to go with it if anyone needs it
Good job Jim! Not a big fan of those all/almost all, lol plastic carburetors! Have a Husqvarna and a Troy-bilt ( both self-propelled) here to repair! Only run 90 & 93 octane non-ethonal gas in all my stuff. You just can't convince some people. 🙄🤔🤣
And when I try I sure get hollered at.
Great vid
I had a chance to buy a Snapper walk behind mower that had electric start, self propelled, and a side bag which in my opinion is a million times better than the stupid rear bags that cause back injuries 50 bucks. and I passed on it that was a terrible mistake and it was in perfect condition.
Great job Jim!! I can't believe how expensive that Dow Corning 55 lubricant is! The whole small engine business is going down the tubes with gov't overreach and corporate greed. I've noticed a number of small engine shops on YT are shutting down their business because of overpriced, hard to get parts and poorly built products. Gotta keep those Snapper RERs going!! BTW, a neighbor of mine put her Honda self-propelled mower to the curb and I couldn't resist taking it as it was in nice condition. Wouldn't start at first but I took the carb off, cleaned the intake jets, changed the fuel and it started right up. Just had to buy a new plastic piece for the self-propelled adjustment lever. That's a about a $300-400 mower for free. Also, Honda is getting out of the mower business in the US after selling out all their current inventory.
YEP!!!!!!!! SNAPPOUT!
This is the best channel on UA-cam for small engines and Snapper riding mowers. I learned so much here.
Ok a silly question so where is the water coming from? Gas station or home owner poor storage?
Atmosphere.
Probably gas with ethanol as the ethanol binds with water and separates.
Ethanol absorbs, moisture right out of the air and it condenses into water either in your gas tank or your gas can especially if your gas is not sealed most all cars today have sealed gas tanks. You’ll notice that if you leave your cap loose, your check engine light will come on. That’s why it doesn’t seem to affect our cars that much and another thing that helps is constantly driving our cars and using the fuel in the tank when my truck for the winter, I fill it with premium with no ethanol
I have a friend that got that mower new carb got clogged up in a few months , yep it is cheap plastic junk it is easy to clean I bought a new carb they are not expensive I will just change them out when it gets clogged up so I always have one ready for the next time
Thanks Jim for the help! These are the best machines! I have a '87 and '92 and they run great!

Hi Jim! Do you still make the heavy duty spreader bars? My thin OEM one is bent. Thank you for all the great information! Sincerely, Craig
Yes, I do. They’re somewhere around $20 apiece. I don’t know exactly I think it’s 1950. I’m not sure and it’s $11 shipping and I have PayPal if you’re interested.
When I got home, I checked the price and the are $19.50 with $11 shipping. I have a PayPal account if you’re interested.
Hi Jim! I realize I’m a few years late seeing your video on steering link repair. I’ve hunted all over for these parts. Do you have the part number to help in my search? Thank you so much for your help! Sincerely, Craig😊
Yes, I gave them away as a drawing prize shortly after that video but in the video I believe I see what the model or part number is
Jim, thank you so much for doing these video’s!
It would have been better if you’d shown a close up of the spring installed without the clutch .
Well, I do the best I can I work alone
Where can I get the 8 pinion gear from?
You can get one from me I have a source that has them. I’ll need your information, but I will need you to contact me through my email which is. jimsfixitshop@gmail.com You don’t want to put your address in this description area. Everybody can read it.
Kool I sent you an email looking forward to the rebuild if you want to add the parts list I wouldn’t be mad lol
my lip seal has leaked since the first day that I bought it from the dealer. Brand new and leaked, I was pretty upset so I researched it. Every one that had a snapper said don,t use the snapper grease use lubi plate 105 grease. So I did and put a little lucas in the gear box with the grease. That's what I have used in the gear box since 2008 when I bought it brand new and it's working great.
I’ll have to check into that 105 grease thanks for the tip
Hi Jim I watched your clutch videos from several years ago and this is just what I need. I weigh 230 and I have some hills to cut and the clutch doesn't seem to last. I think the friction material gets polished and then its done. After I take that large nut off, I can't seem to get the disk off. In your videos you seem to just pop it off. Do you have any suggestions on how to get it off that shaft the first time?
If you’re just trying to replace the clutch disk with the rubber on it, take the four small nuts off on the outside and it will come off in the clutch disassembly will stay in place
@@jimjackson9381 no, I wanted to take the whole assembly off and connect the two like you did in your video. It came off with a little persuasion. I have the assembly all put together and now have to put the mower back together. Wish me luck.
Hi Jim. I raised the deck height 1/4" and the chains the same, now the cutting height is 2 1/4" which is perfect for fine fescue grass. thanks very much for your video, it was very helpful. Thanks again Ed McGee
were did you put that yoke spring on the bottom
I would have to see pictures of your yoke and the back of your machine when it’s sitting on all four tires, through the different years of manufacturing, they change the location of the spring.
i have 5 holes in my yoke were do i put the spring on the bottom i put the top of the spring in the top hole i cant find the holes in the bottom
Some of the machines, the newer ones, the spring hooks in the back of the rear case you’ll see a small slot with a hole under it. The spring goes through the slot, and the end of the hook goes into the hole.
Thanks, I looked it up since I ordered a new belt yesterday. It's 73 and 1/2". I had a belt that I ordered a couple of years ago and it was 74 3/4". Thanks for showing how to raise the mower deck. My deck used to be perfect in the 3rd notch but some how it is lower now and I need to raise it a little bit. Thanks again
Make sure all your tires are completely full of air that will change your cutting distance
thank you
Why did I get a fiber insert with my new clutch disk!!???
You have to insert that inside of your clutch disk without that in there, your machine won’t move don’t cut it. It should be the right length you want to end to touch tightly with no gap just it doesn’t need to be glued or anything else.
Hi, what length of belt does the 28" snapper deck use!!
Well, off the top of my head I think it’s 74 and three-quarter inches but if you go on Parts Tree.Com with your model number, it will tell you exactly how big it should be and remember you need a double V belt not a standard V
thank you if i stretch the spring would it be better to get another one i could not find the bottom holes
Yes, if it’s stretched out of shape, you should replace it. Some machines do not have adjusting holes on the bottom. They only have them on the top.
@@jimjackson9381 were do i put the bottom one at
my is a 2019 snapper
What did I get myself into….Mine is a 2016 RE110 i haven’t started yet just doing some research.i got this mower for some side work. Its in great shape but the guy who gave it to said it dies in high grass.Welp i checked the belt it’s really loose by touch.im thinking the belt,it drives fine definitely need greased up.What do you think passed off this comment?
Yes, service the machine up the best you can and make sure everything is moving. You may have to tighten the belt if it’s too loose first check to make sure he didn’t change the belt and put the wrong one on.
Jim I have a snapper rear engine mower I seen where you made a piece to fix the worn out yoke it's a piece of metal you bolt on Do you still have one of these need one bad.thanks Roger
It depends on how much your yoke cost some of our fairly cheap and others are fairly expensive but the cheap ones it didn’t pay to make the piece of steel and put in there the yokes were cheaper.
There are 65.00 and this is the second one I have put on it they are not very great metal. And hard to put on.
Thought you metal might be better stuff
@@user-jj7hp9hq5s you can go to like Home Depot or Menards and pick up some flat stock and make a piece out of that. I just don’t have any right now and don’t really have a way to make any.
Hi Jim! I really, REALLY appreciate you and your channel, especially the stuff on Snapper RER's!!! I have a problem with the wiring on my 331411KVE, and the wiring diagram in the manual is either too vague or I'm too dense to understand it! Specifically, something apparently came apart in the wiring a long time ago and it won't shut off with the key ever since. I found a wire that if I ground it out will shut off the motor, but I can't figure out what that wire is supposed to connect to in the harness so it will shut off with the key. I'm not sure if the ignition switch is original or not. It has more than three terminals, which the wiring diagram seems to show. The starter terminal on the switch works as it should and starts the engine and the battery charges. The third wire to the ignition switch is connected to a terminal that does doesn't seem to have any juice with the switch in any position, but the engine runs with it that way anyway. I tried connecting that wire to a terminal that was hot with the key on, but then there was no spark. Can you tell me where that third wire from the ignition switch is supposed to connect to the engine? My engine has a charging regulator, but I can't see that on the wiring diagram; not that it matters, but my way of reading wiring diagrams includes a process of elimination, which doesn't help much if everything is not there! Thanks a whole bunch for any help you can give me! I have great admiration for guys who selflessly help out their fellow humans just because! Arvin
On your engine where your throttle cable hooks to there is a stud sticking out they referred to as the magneto shorting block the wire coming from your ignition switch marked. M should be connected to that stud that should kill the engine when you shut off the key and let me know if it works.

Hey Jim. This is Michael from Arkansas and first I just want to say that I've really enjoyed and found your content useful. I have been enjoying seeing you go through Paul's drivetrain. I have an issue that I want to put to you and see if you might have some insight on a problem I have been suffering with. I have a bad intermittent vibration issue with my blade/spindle/deck. I rebuilt the spindle several years ago with help from your channel and maybe a year ago I started to have a bad vibration at high speeds. I could slow the rpm, of the engine down and it goes away. at first I thought it was a loose or missing bolt at the spindle to deck junction but it appears that the bolts are still in place and tight. I also knew that my belt was a bit loose and I recently replaced it with no change. The corrugated ring that helps suspend the spindle in the deck frame has fallen out and It seems that I am unable to replace it properly without disassembling the pully/brake/and top end of the spindle itself. I am hoping that you may have some tips on how best to approach this issue. Do you think I should tear it down and rebuild it again? Thanks in advance Jim.
I just put a new disc on but I put it in neutral and it drags like it's in gear?

I don't have the bars to tip it upright It is a 2017. Is the process the same from underneath?
Well, I’m not sure I haven’t worked on a 2017 and I know they have changed a few things. I do have some bumpers for sale if you want to try to put them on and see how it works for standing it up, although they don’t recommend standing them up because the front end is so heavy, it makes it top-heavy once it stood up and it could tip overstrongly suggest using a rope. You can get them at Farm and Fleet $49 or I’m sure Amazon has them and keep it suspended with the rope while you’re working on it.
Thanks for the info. Just bought one cheap on marketplace in pristine condition. Excited to learn about them and tinker. 👍🏼
